How the score works

Every trade gets a score out of 100, built from five plain, explainable factors below. Nothing is hidden and nothing is subjective -- this page is generated directly from the same code that scores every trade, so it can never drift out of sync with what actually runs. A human doesn't decide what's “interesting” each day; trades scoring 50+ go into the next newsletter automatically, no editorial judgment involved.

Trade size (up to 30 points)

How much money changed hands. Same scale for buys and sells.

  • under $25K5/30
  • $25K-$100K10/30
  • $100K-$500K18/30
  • $500K-$2M24/30
  • over $2M30/30

Change to their own stake (up to 25 points)

The trade as a percentage of the insider's prior holding -- a $500K sale means very different things to someone with $600K in stock versus $60M.

  • under 5% of their stake3/25
  • 5-15% of their stake10/25
  • 15-40% of their stake18/25
  • over 40% of their stake25/25

Insider's role (up to 20 points)

Who made the trade. The CEO and CFO typically have the clearest view into the business, so they're weighted highest.

  • CEO/Founder20/20
  • CFO18/20
  • Other C-suite executive15/20
  • President14/20
  • Vice President10/20
  • Officer (no specific title matched)12/20

Cluster trading (up to 15 points)

When multiple distinct insiders at the same company trade the same direction within 14 days of each other, that's a stronger signal than any single trade -- it suggests shared conviction rather than one person's personal financial decision.

  • no other insiders trading alongside them0/15
  • 2 insiders trading the same direction within 14 days10/15
  • 3 insiders trading the same direction within 14 days13/15
  • 4+ insiders trading the same direction within 14 days15/15

Time since their last trade (up to 10 points)

How long since this specific insider last traded on the open market, in either direction. A long gap suggests a deliberate decision rather than a routine one.

  • traded within the last 30 days0/10
  • last traded 1-3 months ago4/10
  • last traded 3-12 months ago7/10
  • last traded over a year ago10/10

The score decides what goes in the newsletter -- it's never used to suggest you buy or sell anything. See the disclaimer for the full picture.
